Athlete Experience (AX) is a cross functional, OMNI initiative that is at the heart of DICK's transformation to become the best Sports Company in the World. We endeavor to evolve how we serve the Athlete to be more holistic and provide a relationship-based offering that begins with motivating our athletes in sport to helping them improve their game. Under the AX portfolio, we connect across our initiatives of Loyalty, Personalization, Retail, Services and Performance.

Reporting to the EVP, Stores, you will be responsible for driving the definition and prioritization of Services and Performance experiences within the portfolio of our Athlete Experience (AX) transformation initiative, acting as the core business owner ( general manager ) to drive strategy through operations in our brick & mortar locations, leveraging digital enablement, accountable for outcomes and key results. Ideally this role will be based in Dick's corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, but we are open to considering a remote arrangement.

Responsibilities include:

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with AX Central Team and Transformation Office to ensure alignment with overall AX and DSG strategy, establish and measure business value, manage dependencies.

  • Partner with Product leaders to define Digital experiences and ensure translation to Tech roadmaps; actively problem solve requirements, tradeoffs and prioritization decisions.

  • Lead workshops with stakeholders and technology partners to align strategy and work.

  • Provide executive-level updates on prioritization and progress.

  • Translate stakeholder insights into prioritization and product vision.

Execution: Overseeing the Design and Delivery of Athlete Solutions

Deliver Products/Features

  • Push for holistic value creation for experiences - Athlete and Teammate experience benefits, revenue/margin and continuous innovation.

  • Ensure experiences are truly omnichannel, ingesting requirements from around the business.

  • Remove cross-squad roadblocks and escalate issues as needed to ensure smooth execution.

  • Identify and mitigate dependencies across cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Communicate risks associated with the product roadmap and deliverables.

  • Guide the creation of the release plan, including feature prioritization.

  • Provide oversight in developing discovery objectives and goals in collaboration with product teams and stakeholders.

Strategy: Planning to Solve Athlete Problems and Drive Market Impact

Form Strategy & Prioritize Work

  • Lead high-complexity, high-impact enterprise initiatives.

  • Define and support strategy across multiple projects.

  • Create discovery strategies and identify new product opportunities.

  • Co-author roadmaps based on strategic enterprise needs.

  • Use decision support tools to weigh competing factors.

  • Communicate the rationale behind prioritized work to executives.

  • Share the cross-functional roadmap strategy with relevant leaders and stakeholders.

  • Explain the value of discovery and testing.

Identify Opportunities

  • Lead discovery processes using data to pinpoint athlete pain points.

  • Identify data patterns and build research models.

  • Prioritize problems for optimal business outcomes.

  • Set long-term vision for large strategic projects.

  • Use mixed research methods and design thinking to formulate strategies.

Gather Feedback, Form & Track KPIs/Metrics

  • Ensure transparent communication with all stakeholders, providing regular updates on portfolio progress, challenges and key achievements.

  • Manage squad performance and health, focusing on team development, role modeling, agile practices, fostering autonomy, ownership and self-organization to drive innovation and productivity.

  • Use goal frameworks to set metrics and outcomes.

  • Identify patterns through behavioral and usage trends.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to build goals and discovery objectives.

  • Use data to articulate product stories and athlete needs.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thought leader with strong execution and results-orientation and a demonstrated track record of successfully leading an idea/initiative from vision to strategy to execution - bringing it to life. This person will possess cross-functional, general management experience from a retail or consumer services business that serves its customers across multiple channels, with a particular focus on delivering digital products and experiences. Key to this role will be a strong understanding and passion for product services and performance experiences related to sport.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 10 years of cross-functional, general management experience from a consumer services business with digital component.

  • Ideally brings background and experience in athlete-driven services and/or athlete performance services, OR strong understanding of the athlete value proposition.

  • Ability to deliver in this space in physical and digital environments.

  • Experience leading transformation and large change initiatives within large, matrixed corporations.

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully leading ideas/initiatives (with digital elements) from vision to strategy to execution - bringing it to life .

  • Strategic thought leader with strong execution, results-orientation.

  • Digitally savvy with data-driven decision making.

  • Excellent coach and mentor to all roles.

  • Strong and credible leader with ability to motivate cross-functional teams.

  • Strong sense of ownership; committed to understanding what's being built and accountable for the squad's on-time delivery.

  • User-centric, focused on how the team's work impacts Athletes and Teammates.

  • Passionate about challenging the status quo and embracing change.

  • Experimental mindset, driven by innovation and willing to step out of the comfort zone, inspiring others to do the same.

  • Experience in, or knowledge of, retail store environment and what it takes to scale a business in this environment, preferred.
